Trip Overview

The Annapurna Foothills Trek Nepal is an unforgettable Himalayan journey through some of the most scenic and culturally rich landscapes of the Annapurna region. Combining the spectacular Mardi Himal View Point (4,200 m / 13,780 ft.) with the famous sunrise viewpoint of Poon Hill (3,210 m / 10,531 ft.), this trek brings together dramatic Himalayan panoramas, peaceful mountain trails, traditional Gurung villages, lush forests, terraced hillsides, and authentic Himalayan experiences. From the lower foothills to the high alpine landscapes of Mardi Himal, every section of the journey offers a different perspective of Nepal's natural beauty and mountain culture.

The adventure begins in Pokhara, the beautiful lakeside gateway to the Annapurna region. After enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the city, the journey continues by road to Kande, where the trekking adventure begins. The trail leads through green hills, terraced farmland, small mountain settlements, and peaceful forests before reaching Deurali. As the trail climbs higher, the surrounding landscapes gradually change, revealing wider views of the mountains and creating a sense of entering the heart of the Annapurna foothills.

Trekking Through the Mardi Himal Landscapes

The first major adventure of the trek leads toward Mardi Himal, where the trail winds through beautiful rhododendron and oak forests. During spring, the forests come alive with colorful rhododendron blossoms, while misty mornings and quiet woodland trails create an atmosphere of true Himalayan wilderness. As the elevation increases, the forest gradually becomes thinner and the landscape opens into alpine meadows and rugged mountain terrain.

The journey continues through Rest Camp toward Mardi Himal High Camp, where the surrounding mountains become increasingly impressive. The closer you get to the high camp, the more dramatic the landscape becomes, with rocky ridges, open mountain slopes, and magnificent views of the Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and other Himalayan peaks.

Mardi Himal View Point – A Spectacular Himalayan Panorama

One of the greatest highlights of the Annapurna Foothills Trek Nepal is the early morning journey to Mardi Himal View Point (4,200 m / 13,780 ft.). Reaching the viewpoint as the mountains emerge from the morning light is a truly memorable Himalayan experience. The panoramic scenery stretches across the Annapurna range, with the distinctive pyramid of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) standing prominently above the surrounding peaks.

From the viewpoint, trekkers can take in an extraordinary combination of snow-covered mountains, deep valleys, alpine ridges, and vast Himalayan horizons. The feeling of standing high above the valleys, surrounded by some of Nepal's most beautiful mountains, makes this one of the most rewarding moments of the entire trek.

After enjoying the spectacular views, the trail descends toward Low Camp, allowing trekkers to experience the dramatic change from alpine terrain back into green forest landscapes. The descent also provides new perspectives of the mountains and surrounding valleys that may not be visible during the ascent.

Landruk and Authentic Gurung Village Life

Leaving the Mardi Himal trail, the route continues through Forest Camp toward Landruk, a traditional mountain village surrounded by terraced hillsides and forested slopes. This section provides a wonderful opportunity to experience the quieter side of the Annapurna region, away from the higher mountain trails.

The journey continues to Ghandruk, one of the most beautiful and culturally significant Gurung villages in the Annapurna region. Traditional stone houses, narrow village paths, terraced fields, mountain views, and welcoming local communities create an authentic Himalayan atmosphere. Walking through Ghandruk offers more than beautiful scenery—it provides a glimpse into the traditions, lifestyle, and heritage of the Gurung people.

From Ghandruk, the trail continues toward Tadapani, passing through dense rhododendron forests and peaceful mountain landscapes. The changing views of the Annapurna peaks, combined with the sound of birds and the quiet forest surroundings, make this section of the trek especially enjoyable.

Tadapani to Ghorepani – Through Rhododendron Forests

The trail from Tadapani to Ghorepani takes you deeper into the beautiful forested landscapes of the Annapurna foothills. Rhododendron trees cover the hillsides, while occasional openings in the forest reveal spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

The route provides a perfect balance between nature and culture, with forest trails connecting traditional mountain settlements. Reaching Ghorepani, one of the region's best-known trekking villages, builds anticipation for the final major highlight of the journey—the sunrise from Poon Hill.

Poon Hill Sunrise – One of Nepal's Iconic Viewpoints

An early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210 m / 10,531 ft.) is another unforgettable highlight of the Annapurna Foothills Trek. Before sunrise, the trail climbs through the quiet morning darkness, building anticipation as you approach the viewpoint.

As the sun rises above the Himalayan horizon, the mountains gradually change color, revealing an extraordinary panorama of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Peaks including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, and surrounding mountains create a spectacular backdrop for sunrise.

Standing at Poon Hill as the first rays of sunlight illuminate the Himalayan peaks is one of those experiences that stays with you long after the trek has ended. The combination of sunrise, mountain scenery, peaceful surroundings, and the sense of achievement makes Poon Hill a defining moment of the journey.

Ulleri, Hile and Return to Pokhara

After experiencing the sunrise at Poon Hill, the trek continues downhill through Ulleri and Hile, passing through traditional villages, stone steps, terraced farmland, forests, and green hills. The landscape becomes warmer and more fertile as the trail descends, offering a pleasant contrast to the high-altitude environment around Mardi Himal and Poon Hill.

From Hile, a scenic drive takes you back to Pokhara, where you can relax after completing the trekking portion of the journey. The return to the lakeside city provides time to reflect on the spectacular landscapes, mountain views, and cultural experiences encountered along the trail.

Relax and Explore Pokhara

A dedicated buffer day in Pokhara provides a relaxed finish to the adventure. After several days of trekking, you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere around Phewa Lake, explore the lakeside area, visit local attractions, or simply relax while taking in the surrounding hills and distant Himalayan views.

This extra day also gives the journey a comfortable pace, allowing you to enjoy Pokhara rather than rushing immediately onward after completing the trek.

A Complete Annapurna Foothills Experience

The Annapurna Foothills Trek Nepal brings together two unforgettable Himalayan viewpoints—Mardi Himal View Point (4,200 m) and Poon Hill (3,210 m)—with the cultural and natural highlights of the Annapurna region. From the quiet forests and alpine ridges of Mardi Himal to the traditional Gurung villages of Landruk and Ghandruk, and from the rhododendron forests of Tadapani and Ghorepani to the sunrise panorama of Poon Hill, the journey offers remarkable variety from beginning to end.

With spectacular mountain views, authentic village life, colorful forests, terraced landscapes, peaceful trails, and memorable sunrise experiences, this trek is an ideal choice for travelers who want to experience the beauty, culture, and adventure of the Annapurna region in one carefully designed Himalayan journey. The combination of Mardi Himal and Poon Hill makes the Annapurna Foothills Trek Nepal a truly rewarding adventure with Monkvana.
