Travel is arranged by private vehicle, with a flight between Pokhara and Kathmandu, providing flexibility along the route and allowing stops at cultural sites, viewpoints, historic towns, villages, and places of interest. The landscapes change considerably throughout the journey, from the historic temples and royal squares of the Kathmandu Valley to the green hills of central Nepal, the mountain scenery and lakes of Pokhara, and the peaceful Buddhist environment of Namo Buddha and Dhulikhel.

Kathmandu Valley – UNESCO Heritage, Temples and Buddhist Stupas

The journey begins in Kathmandu, the cultural and historic centre of Nepal. The Kathmandu Valley is home to numerous temples, stupas, courtyards, palaces, and historic monuments representing centuries of Hindu and Buddhist traditions. The sightseeing programme introduces some of the valley’s most important cultural landmarks and provides an opportunity to experience Nepal’s distinctive architecture, religious traditions, and living heritage.

Visit Pashupatinath Temple, one of Nepal’s most important Hindu pilgrimage sites and a major centre of worship dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located beside the sacred Bagmati River, the temple complex is known for its pagoda-style architecture, shrines, ghats, and religious atmosphere.

Continue to Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest and most significant Buddhist stupas in Nepal. Prayer flags, monasteries, prayer wheels, and pilgrims create a distinctive spiritual environment around this important Buddhist landmark.

The tour also includes Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its traditional Newari architecture, temples, courtyards, palace buildings, and artistic heritage. The historic square provides an excellent introduction to the architectural traditions of the Kathmandu Valley.

Visit Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, situated on a hill overlooking Kathmandu. The site is one of the valley’s best-known Buddhist monuments and is recognised for its famous Buddha eyes and panoramic views across the city.

Gorkha – Royal Heritage and Historic Landscapes

From Kathmandu, travel towards Gorkha, a historic hill town associated with the former Gorkha Kingdom and the formation of modern Nepal. The main attraction is Gorkha Durbar, a historic palace and temple complex situated on a hill above the town.

Gorkha Durbar reflects the political, religious, and cultural history of the former kingdom and provides views across the surrounding hills. The journey through central Nepal also offers changing scenery, with river valleys, terraced farmland, forested hills, and traditional settlements along the route.

From Gorkha, continue towards Bandipur, enjoying the changing landscapes of central Nepal and an opportunity to observe rural life beyond the main tourist centres.

Bandipur – Traditional Newari Town and Himalayan Views

Continue to Bandipur, a beautifully preserved hill town known for its traditional Newari architecture, historic buildings, stone-paved streets, temples, and peaceful atmosphere. Located on a ridge above the Marsyangdi Valley, Bandipur combines cultural heritage with views across the surrounding hills and mountains.

The historic town centre is characterised by traditional houses, courtyards, temples, and pedestrian-friendly streets. Walking through Bandipur provides an opportunity to appreciate its architectural character and experience the slower pace of traditional hill-town life.

On clear days, Bandipur also offers views towards the Himalayan ranges. The combination of Newari heritage, historic architecture, hill landscapes, and mountain scenery makes it an important cultural stop between Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Pokhara – Lakes, Himalayan Views and Scenic Attractions

From Bandipur, continue to Pokhara, one of Nepal’s most popular scenic destinations. Set beside Phewa Lake and surrounded by green hills and Himalayan peaks, Pokhara offers a noticeable change from the historic environments of Kathmandu, Gorkha, and Bandipur.

An early visit to Sarangkot offers one of the most popular viewpoints around Pokhara. Situated on a hill above the valley, Sarangkot is known for its panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges and surrounding landscapes.

On clear mornings, the viewpoint provides impressive views towards Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). The combination of mountain scenery, sunrise, and traditional hillside landscapes makes Sarangkot a memorable part of the Pokhara experience.

Flight to Kathmandu and Namo Buddha – Buddhist Heritage

After exploring Pokhara, return to Kathmandu by scenic flight, offering a different perspective of Nepal’s hills and mountain landscapes while reducing road travel time.

From Kathmandu, continue by road towards Namo Buddha, one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal. Located in the hills of Kavrepalanchok District, Namo Buddha is traditionally associated with a sacred Buddhist story concerning the Buddha in a previous life.

The site is centred around Namo Buddha Monastery, also known as Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery. Its peaceful hilltop setting, prayer flags, monasteries, surrounding forests, and distant Himalayan views create a distinctly spiritual atmosphere.

Namo Buddha, Panauti and Dhulikhel – Scenic Hill Landscapes

Continue from Namo Buddha towards Panauti, a historic Newari town known for its traditional architecture, temples, courtyards, and cultural heritage. The town provides an opportunity to experience a quieter side of the Kathmandu Valley region and observe traditional Newari settlement patterns.

The journey then continues towards Dhulikhel, travelling through scenic hills, terraced farmland, traditional villages, and countryside landscapes. Depending on the day’s conditions and preferences, parts of this section can be enjoyed as a scenic walk or by private vehicle.

Dhulikhel is a historic hill town known for its Newari heritage and panoramic Himalayan views. On clear days, the surrounding mountain ranges provide a dramatic backdrop, while the town itself offers a peaceful environment away from the busy centre of Kathmandu.

Kathmandu – Sanga Shiva Statue and Patan Durbar Square

Return to Kathmandu and continue exploring the Kathmandu Valley’s cultural landmarks. Visit the Sanga Shiva Statue, a prominent religious landmark east of Kathmandu. The large statue of Lord Shiva is part of an important religious site surrounded by temples and offers views across the surrounding landscape.
