Trip Overview

The Mardi Himal Trek Nepal is an unforgettable Himalayan journey through the scenic and culturally rich landscapes of the Annapurna region. This trek takes you from the peaceful foothills of Pokhara through traditional Gurung villages, lush rhododendron and oak forests, terraced hillsides, alpine meadows, and rugged mountain landscapes toward the spectacular Mardi Himal View Point (4,200 m / 13,780 ft.). With breathtaking views of Mardi Himal, Machhapuchchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli, the journey offers a perfect combination of natural beauty, mountain culture, peaceful trails, and authentic Himalayan experiences.

The adventure begins in Pokhara, the beautiful lakeside gateway to the Annapurna region. From Pokhara, a scenic drive takes you toward Lwang Cultural Village (1,460 m / 4,790 ft.), where the trekking adventure begins. Surrounded by green hills, traditional houses, terraced farmland, and beautiful tea gardens, Lwang provides an excellent introduction to Gurung culture and mountain village life. From the village, the trail gradually climbs through peaceful forests and scenic hills toward the higher landscapes of Mardi Himal.

Trekking Through the Lwang Cultural Village

The journey begins in Lwang Cultural Village, a traditional Gurung settlement known for its peaceful atmosphere, welcoming communities, and beautiful tea gardens. Walking through the village provides an opportunity to experience local traditions, traditional houses, terraced fields, and the everyday lifestyle of the Gurung people.

As the trail leaves Lwang, the landscape gradually changes from cultivated hillsides to dense rhododendron and oak forests. The peaceful woodland trails provide shade and tranquility, while occasional openings through the trees reveal glimpses of the surrounding mountains. During spring, colorful rhododendron blossoms add another beautiful dimension to the journey.

Forest Camp and the Changing Mountain Landscapes

The trail continues upward toward Forest Camp (2,520 m / 8,268 ft.), passing through beautiful forests and quiet mountain paths. As the elevation increases, the vegetation begins to change and the surrounding landscape becomes increasingly alpine.

From Forest Camp, the journey continues toward Low Camp (2,970 m / 9,744 ft.), where the forest gradually becomes thinner and wider mountain views begin to appear. The changing scenery creates a remarkable contrast between the lush lower foothills and the rugged high-altitude landscapes ahead.

At Low Camp, trekkers can enjoy spectacular views of Machhapuchchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli, while the ridgeline trail provides an increasingly impressive perspective of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

High Camp – Into the Alpine Landscapes

Continuing from Low Camp, the trail climbs toward High Camp (3,580 m / 11,745 ft.), one of the most spectacular sections of the Mardi Himal Trek. The route follows open ridges and alpine terrain, with expansive views across the Annapurna foothills and surrounding valleys.

As the trail approaches High Camp, the landscape becomes more rugged and dramatic. The forests give way to open mountain slopes, rocky ridges, and alpine meadows. The towering presence of Machhapuchchhre (Fishtail) becomes increasingly impressive, creating one of the most memorable visual experiences of the trek.

High Camp provides an excellent setting to enjoy the mountain scenery, especially during sunrise and sunset when the surrounding peaks are illuminated by changing Himalayan light.

Mardi Himal View Point – The Highlight of the Trek

One of the greatest highlights of the Mardi Himal Trek Nepal is the early morning hike to Mardi Himal View Point (4,200 m / 13,780 ft.). The trail climbs along a dramatic mountain ridge toward the viewpoint, where trekkers are rewarded with spectacular panoramic scenery.

From the viewpoint, the magnificent Mardi Himal rises above the surrounding landscape, while Machhapuchchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and other Himalayan peaks create an unforgettable mountain panorama.

Standing at the viewpoint high above the valleys, surrounded by snow-covered peaks, rugged ridges, and vast Himalayan horizons, is a truly rewarding experience. The combination of high-altitude scenery, peaceful surroundings, and the sense of achievement makes the Mardi Himal View Point one of the most memorable moments of the journey.

After enjoying the spectacular views, the trail begins its descent toward Low Camp, allowing trekkers to experience the changing landscapes from a different perspective. The descent gradually brings the route back toward greener forests and lower mountain environments.

Authentic Gurung Village Experiences

One of the special aspects of the Mardi Himal Trek Nepal is the opportunity to experience authentic Gurung culture and village life. From Lwang to the traditional settlements along the route, trekkers encounter welcoming communities, traditional architecture, terraced fields, and local customs that reflect the rich cultural heritage of the Annapurna region.

The peaceful village environments provide a meaningful contrast to the high alpine landscapes of Mardi Himal. Spending time in these communities allows travelers to experience Nepal beyond its mountains and gain a deeper appreciation for the traditions and lifestyles of people living in the Himalayan foothills.

Rhododendron and Oak Forests

The trek passes through some of the beautiful rhododendron and oak forests of the Annapurna foothills. These forests create peaceful and scenic walking environments, with narrow trails winding beneath tall trees and occasional views opening toward the surrounding mountains.

During spring, the rhododendron forests become especially colorful, creating a spectacular contrast between the vibrant flowers, green vegetation, and distant snow-covered peaks. The forests are also home to a variety of Himalayan birds and wildlife, adding to the natural richness of the journey.

Mountain Views of Machhapuchchhre and Annapurna

Throughout the trek, the scenery is dominated by some of the most recognizable mountains of the Annapurna region. Machhapuchchhre (Fishtail) is one of the most striking features of the journey, with its distinctive pointed summit appearing from different angles along the trail.

The trek also provides impressive views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Mardi Himal, and surrounding Himalayan peaks. As the route climbs higher, the mountain panorama becomes wider and more dramatic, creating countless opportunities to enjoy the spectacular scenery and capture memorable photographs.

Descent Through the Annapurna Foothills

After reaching the Mardi Himal View Point, the trek gradually descends through Low Camp and Forest Camp, returning toward the greener landscapes of the Annapurna foothills. The changing scenery provides a different perspective of the forests, valleys, and mountain ridges experienced during the ascent.

The descent is generally peaceful, allowing trekkers to enjoy the natural surroundings at a more relaxed pace while reflecting on the spectacular high-altitude experience of Mardi Himal.

Return to Pokhara

After completing the trekking section, a scenic drive brings you back to Pokhara, the peaceful lakeside city. After several days in the mountains, returning to Pokhara provides an opportunity to relax and enjoy the city's comfortable atmosphere.

You can spend time around Phewa Lake, explore the lakeside area, visit local attractions, or simply relax while enjoying views of the surrounding hills. Pokhara provides a pleasant conclusion to the Mardi Himal adventure.

Relax and Explore Pokhara

A buffer day in Pokhara can provide a comfortable finish to the journey. After completing the trek, you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Phewa Lake, explore the vibrant Lakeside area, discover local cultural attractions, or simply relax after the mountain adventure.

This additional time also allows you to enjoy Pokhara without rushing, making the overall journey more comfortable and enjoyable.
