Trekking permits and entry permits are required for many trekking destinations across Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan and India. Requirements vary depending on the destination, trekking route, protected area, season, altitude and applicable local regulations.
Trekking Permits in Nepal
Nepal has several types of permits and entry requirements depending on the trekking region. These may include:
- National Park or Conservation Area Entry Permits
- TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System)
- Restricted Area Trekking Permits
- Local Area or Municipal Entry Permits
Popular trekking destinations such as Everest, Annapurna and Langtang have different entry requirements, while restricted regions such as Manaslu, Upper Mustang, Kanchenjunga and Dolpo may require additional permits and specific arrangements.
Tibet, Bhutan & India
Trekking and travel permits may also be required for certain destinations in Tibet, Bhutan and India. Requirements can vary according to the region, travel route, nationality, season and type of activity.
Some destinations may require special permits, travel authorisations, protected-area permits or other documentation in addition to standard entry requirements.
